What Is a Draconic Chart?
Your ordinary birth chart is measured from 0° Aries - the start of the tropical zodiac. A draconic chart measures the very same planets from a different starting point: the Moon's North Node. By sliding the North Node to 0° Aries and rotating every other planet by the same amount, you get a second, parallel chart for the exact same birth moment.
Astrologers read this draconic layer as the soul's chart - the pre-incarnation purpose and inner intentions underneath the personality your natal chart describes. The technique is simple to compute (each planet's tropical longitude minus the natal North Node, wrapped back into the circle) but rich to interpret.

It is a rotation of the zodiac. We take each planet's normal (tropical) longitude and subtract your natal North Node's longitude, wrapping the result back into the 0-360° circle. That single shift slides the North Node to exactly 0° Aries and moves every planet by the same amount, giving each body a new "draconic" sign and degree.

Yes. The whole draconic chart pivots on the North Node, and the Node and the Moon both move quickly, so an accurate birth time and place are needed to fix the axis and the fast-moving bodies. Without an exact time the Moon and Node positions - and therefore the entire rotation - can be off.
Positions are computed with public-domain Meeus astronomical algorithms, and the North Node we use is the MEAN node, which oscillates by up to about 1.7° around the true node. For the vast majority of charts that keeps every planet in the correct draconic sign; only a body sitting within roughly two degrees of a sign boundary might differ from a professional Swiss-Ephemeris true-node draconic chart.
