A birth chart (or natal chart) is a snapshot of the sky at the exact moment and place you were born. It maps where every planet sat against the zodiac, which of the twelve houses each planet falls into, and the angular aspects between them. Together these reveal the structure of your personality, drives, and life themes.

You need three things: your birth date, your exact birth time, and your birth place. The time and place matter because the Rising sign, the houses, and the Moon all move quickly - even a few minutes can shift your Ascendant or change a house placement.

The twelve houses are life areas the chart divides the sky into - identity, money, communication, home, creativity, work, relationships, transformation, beliefs, career, community, and the inner self. A planet sitting in a house colours that area of life. This calculator uses the whole-sign house system, where each sign equals one house.

Aspects are the angles planets make to each other - conjunctions, sextiles, squares, trines, and oppositions. Soft aspects (trine, sextile) flow easily, while hard aspects (square, opposition) create tension and growth. The orb is how far the angle is from exact: the tighter the orb, the stronger the aspect.

This calculator uses public-domain Meeus astronomical algorithms. Planet signs, degrees, houses, and aspects are reliable for the modern era. For a planet sitting within about one degree of a sign boundary, or a body far outside the years 1900-2100, a professional Swiss-Ephemeris chart may differ slightly. Your Rising sign cannot be computed reliably inside the polar circles.
